how can i lose 35 pounds in two months?
This is my goal-- how can I do this? I am currently just under 200, and been on Jenny Craig with limited success.
Thu. Apr 19, 10:52am
you can't seriously expect to be able to do this and not suffer some serious health consequences. try to re-establish your goal to something you can actually reach. really, it's not healthy and in fact, it is very risky behaviour.

I agree with the above poster. At the very least, you won't be able to sustain the weight loss long term. Everyone wants to lose weight for a reunion, vacation, etc. but please resist the temptation to crash diet.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 10:59 AM
Well, 2 months is about 10 weeks, if you cut out 500 calories from your diet everyday you will lose a pound a week(3500 calories is a pound). That would mean losing only 10 pounds in 2 months. If you were to keep a strict diet regime, and also add in fitness everyday(say a bunch of walking that added up to 500 cals burned, or running etc etc) you could lose 2 pounds a week which is usually the healthy limit in how much you should try to lose a week if you want to keep it off. I think 20 pounds in 2 months is a more realistic goal. But I also think if you put your mind to it, talked with a nutritionist and your doctor, and really tuned in to your body that you could do it. Maybe even have 1 session with a personal trainer to sort of assess your goals and how you can reach them, strength training a few times a week will build more muscle which will increase your calorie burn and also help:)
If you really want to keep the weight off though I think 2 pounds a week is a good plan. That mean only about 17 weeks until your goal! and that means by June you'll already look great in summer clothes and still by august you'll look amazing at the beach!

If you went about this in a healthful manner by reducing your calories to ~1200 a day, made sure to get at least half your calories from fruits & veggies, and exercised regularly - you could probably lose 15-20 pounds. In two months that's a significant amount of weight! Other factors may come into play like age, height, weight, fitness level, etc - but this is approximately what you could do in a healthful way.
'Healthful' means you lose fat and not muscle. It means you don't starve yourself, lose water weight, or leech nutrients from your hair, bones, skin and teeth in order to make up for your drastically reduced nutrient intake because you decided to eat nothing but cabbage soup for a month.
I think you know what you would need to do in order to lose that much weight in that amount of time and yes, you could possibly do it. They question is: "Is that what you really want?" and "If that's what you have to do to take it off, do you really think it will stay off?" and "Is that sustainable for you?", also "Are those the habits that you want to stick with you for life?"
Best wishes to you - I wish you the absolute best! Remember you didn't gain it all in two months and it may take some time to come off. You are worth the time and effort it takes to lose weight in a way that will make you a happier, healthier person for the rest of your life.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 11:06 AM
Also (I'm the 11:02 poster) don't trick yourself into thinking " oh everyone says I wont keep the weight off if I do a juice fast, cabbage soup diet, go t the gym 7 times a week etc etc,but once I see myself so thin I TOTALLY will" because its not really you thats in control once you've abused your body. If you've ben sustaining on grapefruits alone, after 2 months you will just crash and need twinkies! But still your goals are totally within reach if approached realistically and correctly and you can be there (AND stay there!) by the middle of summer:)

You can do this only on a strict vegan diet that also avoids all processed foods. Essentially follow the first stage of the Fat Smash Diet for 2 months instead of 9 days. The key is making sure you eat nutrient dense foods. There are many people who follow the supposedly safe 2 pound per week guideline who eat Weight Watchers prepared meals, and all sorts of other junk food. That approach is the truly unhealthy one. At the end of the day a healthy diet is determined by what you eat, not how much you eat.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 11:07 AM
if you are serious about doing this, do not seek out ways to accomplish this from some strangers on a website. people may have ideas about how to do this based on what may have worked for them, but it's very risky. you could plunge your potassium and magnesium levels down so low that your respiratory and nervous systems will become affected. consult with a professional nutritionist who you can go back to and who can help monitor your health during this time.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 11:24 AM
If you are serious about doing this for a one-day event, follow a strict diet and exercise regimen, working out almost every day (weights and cardio), and eating around 1200 calories a day. Then, 3 days before the event, cut out all sodium but make sure you still get enough water. This will flush all excess water out of your system, so you will feel smaller and weigh less (maybe 5lbs in 3 days.) But it will not be permanent at all; as soon as you start eating salt again, in normal amounts, you will get the water weight back; it is normal, and fine.
Also, what is your size? If you are 200lbs and 5'10", you'll have a lot harder time losing 35 lbs than, say, if you are 200lbs and 5'0", because you're a lot closer to healthy, and more of the weight is made up of bones/muscles/etc., rather than fat. If you're very short and weigh close to 200 lbs, you may easily lose the 35 lbs in 2 months, just because you have so much excess fat to lose. Especially if you are very strict with yourself.

Cut off a limb.
Develop an eating disorder.
C'mon, get real. There's no healthy way to pull this off at your weight.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 12:30 PM
I'm going to take your question seriously, so here goes:
Let's say you're 199 and only slightly active. Cals needed to maintain your weight =2189.
If you cut down to 1200 cals a day, your weekly deficit would be: 1.98 lbs.
If you work out 5x/week and burn 500 cals per workout (about 1 hr. speed walking on the treadmill at your weight), you can subtract another lb. per week.
Rather safely, but intensely, you can lose 3lbs. per week, which means a total of 24 lbs. in 2 months.
This is not to mention some bloat that you will probably lose after the first 1-2 weeks of this.
Speak to your Jenny Craig person, tell them what you are doing, visit your doctor and make sure you are healthy enough, and then I don't see why you can't get real darn close to that 35lb number, especially at your current weight. Just realize that it's going to require unwaivering commitment, and as soon as you let up (exercise or cal wise) you will gain some weight back, maybe 5-7 lbs or so. Then you will have to scale down to something more sustainable for you. The good news is the regimen will get MUCH easier after you've passed the 1 week mark.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 2:45 PM
look, it MIGHT BE possible, but it is certainly NOT advisable! set a realistic goal so that you can meet it. if you try to suddenly limit your caloric intake to 1200 calories, you could shock your system and then lose your determination instead of losing weight. please get some professional advise from a person you can talk with face-to-face and can follow-up with if you have any problems. who knows who has an eating disorder and has given you advice?
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 2:51 PM
Better question is why do you want to lose 35lbs in that time? Do you just want to fit into an outfit- then the 35lbs may or may not do the trick. Unless you're trying to lose it for a test where they write your weight down, why do you want to lose 35lbs?
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 3:35 PM
Do the Body For Life program. People make amazing transformations in 12 weeks time.
Here's a website that has REAL people tracking their success on the program and then the official website link is below.

Not sure how you could do it, not without diet pills of some sort. I lost 22 pounds in 3 weeks with the Ephrigine (miss spelled I KNOW) diet pills but then they recalled them. I am glad because they were making me sick. So other than pills not sure how you can lose. If you find a way PLEASE let me know
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 7:21 PM
No! No! No!
Please don't try and lose that much weight in two months. That just doesn't sound healthy. Setting goals is one thing, but being real about it is another. What you want to do just doesn't sound possible. Check with a doctor and a nutritionist. Please do not go to extremes to lose that weight. It's just too much in too short of an amount of time. On the other hand, when I first got serious about losing weight (I was 187), I stopped drinking soda pop (Coke) and lost ten pounds the first month. I also snacked only on carrots or pretzels. And I made myself move for 15 mintues per day. It worked. Be careful and be wise.
Thursday, April 19, 2007, 9:29 PM
yeah, teach me how to develope an eating disorder. that's what this site is for.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 1:00 PM
You guys with the eating disorder comments, c'mon, that's not what the OP is asking for. Look, do I think it's a little nuts to want to lose that much in such a short time? Sure. But I also know it's doable, albeit temporary. If the OP came here looking for advice on "how to," it's not cool for us to bash him/her about it. 1200 cals is doable, exercising is doable, and of the posters who took him/her seriously, no one advised vomiting or compulsive exercising, etc.
If the OP feels they are READY to take on that much discipline that fast, give them some tips!
Here are mine:
SOUP- try to get low sodium soup packed with veggies- they are delicious, low cal, and pretty gosh darn filling. I can have that with a serving of wheat thins and not go over 400 cals. Yum.
Strawberries or other berries- good, low sugar fruits that are delicious. Will help you curb sugar cravings after meals. One cup of gigantic strawberries is only 100 cals.
Oatmeal- fabulous, good energy food. Get the low sugar one- even the instant variety is decent. You don't need to go all organic while you're tackling so much at the same time. 2 good size packets are just over 300 cals.
Stay away from juices, and try to steer clear of sugary fruit like grapes. They're good, but they really increase sugar cravings later in the day.
Good luck OP, let us know how you do!

NO, YOU CAN'T LOSE 35 POUNDS IN 2 MONTHS IN A SAFE WAY. You can have lipo done, lol but the recovery time might interfer.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 5:46 PM
Have one leg removed.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 6:04 PM
Hey, I'm just gonna throw this out there. Not any actual advice either way, just an opinion. I think a lot of people think that once they reach that one weight loss number they'll be happy, and not until then. But really, you'll start to feel better about yourself and how you look right away when you start really losing and focusing yourself. My goal has been to lose about 40-45 pounds and so far I've lost 25. I started at about 185. I felt so much better about myself when I hit 175, 170, etc. I look so much better now and feel great about myself even though I still have more I'd like to lose.
Moral of the story? You don't need to lose it SO quickly to look awesome and feel better about yourself. You'll look and feel better and better through the whole weight-loss journey.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 6:11 PM
Lipo will not help you lose 35lbs. Lipo is not for weight lose it is for reshaping a certain area. I had lipo on my thighs due to very large saddlebags that wouldn't go away with exercise. It made me LOOK like I lost 10-15lbs but in actuality for about 3 week I had gained weight due to swelling and overall only seemed to lose 4-5lbs, 5 weeks after with continued dieting during that time.
And while I agree the cut off a leg or develop and eating disorder are not constructive comments... there is no way to healthy lose that much weight in that much time.
Now my advise, cut your calories add exercise. Do everything the right and healthy way. You may only have lose 10-15lbs at the end of two months but you'll still look better and then in another 2 months or so you'll be down to your goal to stay. You'll look better and better yet feel better. Don't set yourself up for failure with an unrealistic goal.
I started dieting at 185 and it took me a full year to lose 45 lbs... but I did it. I look and feel so much better. Don't focus on what you can't do, focus on what you can.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 6:25 PM
6:25 I'm pretty sure that 5:46 was joking about the lipo, hence the laugh at loud comment.
Friday, April 20, 2007, 6:56 PM
OP if you want to start a group so we can help each other (I have just under 30 to lose), let me know!
Monday, April 23, 2007, 9:20 PM
Man the people in the response here were CRUEL mostly. Poor girl. Cut off a limb??? Gosh
Saturday, June 30, 2007, 11:07 PM
it's better to shatter a weight-loss-fantasy than to give false advice. it's not about appeasing the OP, regardless of that person's goal. it's about helping each other set and reach realistic goals in a healthful way. you call it cruel, i call it sarcasm (i did not write the comment, but i laughed at it).
Monday, July 02, 2007, 9:18 AM
Well, it's been 2 months, how did you do? Any loss is a success!
Monday, July 02, 2007, 10:36 AM
i don't know about your body, but if i needed to lose that much weight, gotta give myself more time. i mean you can diet and excerise like crazy, but you can't live like that all the time. try eating healthy and exercise. don['t worry aobut the weight. think of losing the body fat %.
Monday, July 02, 2007, 5:47 PM

Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 1:08 PM
I think all you people trying to argue that it can't be done are just those fat asses that Don't want to admit that if you really pushed yourself, that you could do it.
1200 cals a day
and 1 hour cardio....
It can be done and no, you don't starve yourself. You know what, if you went a little hungry sometimes, you might lose some weight too!
(Yes, I am a fat ass too, but I don't have blinders on, that I can't lose weight if I really worked my ass off)
Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 2:54 PM
But the question is, can you actually maintain this weight loss for the rest of your life by trying to lose a large amount of weight within 2 months?
Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 3:25 PM

Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 3:30 PM

Thursday, December 27, 2007, 7:54 PM
FORCE OF HABIT
Not smart, but doable using the force of habit...
1. Eat the same thing every day - a multivitamin, a 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup dried fruit, a can of tuna, a V-8, one serving cottage cheese, a banana, a small healthy dinner (600 calories), 1 gallon of water
2. Go as hard as you can on the eliptical for 1.5 hours 6 days a week
If you do this you could lose 35 lbs in 2 months
(I did something similar (not so drastic - and lost 50 lbs in nine months)
(still... not a healthy goal)
Monday, March 10, 2008, 8:26 PM
you can safely lose about 15 or 16 pounds in 2 months
Monday, March 10, 2008, 8:29 PM
"Safely" and "realistically" are two very different animals.
Monday, March 10, 2008, 9:24 PM
lose 35 lbs in 2 months
It is possible and can be very hard while adjusting. Please allow me to explain! I'm new to this whole diet thing. I'm 41yrs. old, 5'11" and weighed 300lbs. on 12/30/2007 and by 2/29/2008 I had lost 32lbs. I chose a total lifestyle change. I 've stopped drinking sodas, smoking, overeating and drinking alcohol. I started eating proper portions, eating several small meals a day, drinking 150oz. of water daily, increased my vegetable & fiber intake many times over and I even eat portion sizes of dessert. I started working out 6 days a week M-F for 45min. with only 30min on Saturdays and Sundays off. Now, with that all said, I have to agree with many other posters. It depends on your weight, lifestyle, eating habits, and calorie intake. You have to eat enough calories so that your body doesn't go into starvation mode. Let me give a brief example of my change. I used to go to McDonalds and order a double 1/4 pounder w/cheese extra value meal supersized with a double cheeseburger on the side, 2 apple pies coke for the drink. Now I order the 2 cheeseburger meal & a chicken sandwhich and share half of it with my wife. It was the same no matter where I ate. KFC I ate 4 or 5 pieces of chicken, at Hardees I got the Thickburger meal. You get the point. Good Luck! (jperson2)

Ali from the Biggest Loser lost 67 pounds in 2 1/2 months. :)
Friday, March 14, 2008, 3:19 AM
...again with the inaccurate "Starvation mode" concept which is in reality just the law of diminishing returns on calorie reduction: if you slash your calories from 900 to 500 you will not lose as much of an ADDITIONAL amount of weight as going from 1300 to 900 did, but you will still be losing more than you did at 900!
...NOT that you will stop losing weight altogether as people seem to say.
Look at Isabelle Caro for crying out loud, she ate three cornflakes and a square of chocolate every day and went down to 55 pounds at 5'5''. Or Christian Bale who did a can of tuna and an apple for four months and went from 180 down to 120 for The Machinist.
Friday, March 14, 2008, 2:18 PM
i'm doing it... don't listen to these... you can do it talkerzz
okay get this.... nov 14 i started at 216lbs... its now nov 25 and i've lost 14lbs... 14ls in 11 days... awesome don't you think... i've joined a gym... i work out 45 - 50 minutes per day... burn 400 - 450 carlories per day... i rest on Sundays... i'll even probably lose more then 35lbs by my goal date... which is December 12...if I can do it... you can too... don't listen to these people on here....

the better question is how can I lose weight in a steady manner.
Wednesday, February 09, 2011, 3:55 PM
My support for the people on the fast mission, but if you get weak, try NIA dance. It's the fun and easy way to stay in shape. Yoga is different, more challenging, but excellent too.
Wednesday, February 09, 2011, 9:22 PM
I did it
I lost 40 lbs in a month and a half. I got a personal trainer, mainly for motivation, and changed my diet. I worked out at least 3 times a week, did 30-45 minutes on the elliptical 4-5 times a week, and was eating portioned sizes of chicken and rice every day, 6 times a day. I'm not sure if it sounds hard or easy, but its kind of both. You make your mind up that its important, and you find out how to do it. I suffered no health risks doing this. In fact, my blood pressure went down, my energy went up, and my self esteem was put in tact again.
