Am I drinking too much water

I was always told to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day right? I do drink 8 glasses of water a day but I measured my glass this morning and it holds 2 cups of water which is 16 oz. of water. So if I drink 8 glasses a day that is actually 128 ounces of water.

Is this good for me or am I retaining my water. Please help!

Thanks Marge

An easy answer

I was told to divide your weight in half- that is the amount if water in OUNCES you should be drinking. If that is less than 6-8, 8 oz. glasses a day then you you can have up to that amount but prob no more otherwise you risk diluting your vit and mineral absoption.

salt (sodium) actually causes you to retain water, drinking the water helps clean out your system faster so it is fine to drink more water, i drink at least six 20 oz bottles a day

Check the color of your urine - it should be pale yellow. That is the easiest and most sure way to tell if you are hydrated. It doesn't rely on rules of thumb that may or may not be appropriate for your body composition.

Beyond that, if you've been drinking that much for a while now, I think you'll be fine. Getting dangerously over-hydrated is an accute problem, not chronic - athletes die from it because they drink too much water over the course of one marathon, not because they drink a lot of water every single day.

Thank you for all your comments. I have been drinking the water for a year now and my urine is clear most of the time. Have a great weekend everyone take care.

Thanks again
