Okay, I actually like Oprah, but this just makes me say "ugh"...when will the photo of her enjoying some fried chicken hit the stands? And vegan would be great too if I had my own chef who knew what s/he were doing and how to make it yummy...ugh...

If you watched the show she said she was trying it, she wasn't touting it. And if she goes back to fried chicken, so what? I appreciate anyone who is open minded enough to try something, especially when it seems more in line with how they want to live their life.

And why begrudge a person who has resources? Any life change still requires a that a person make a change. If a person really wanted to try this out for themselves - a few small, easy changes can be made by anyone. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

When Oprah learns my name I will care

I am sick of famous people becoming newsworthy because they have simply changed their diet.

I consider it more worthy to hear about the local fireman that risked his/her life for others, or the police officer that puts himself in danger every day when they leave for work.

Yes we all want to lose weight, that is why we are here on PT...I am just tired of entertainment tonight being the "EVENING NEWS".

Good for Oprah, she is trying to improve her health with dietary changes. When Oprah learns my name it will be a bigger concern to me....

Hey 8:45 - you totally don't need a chef to make vegan food tast good! Remember, tofu is like cake flour - doesn't taste good all by itself! Check out the books by Isa Moskowitz - YUM!

Whats the deal with Oprah? I thought she had gotten all skinny but I saw her a few days ago and she looks fat again.

I agree with 1:08...there is a massive search and rescue effort going on in China, violence in South Africa, another massive search and rescue effort in Myanmar and we are talking about Oprah's diet? ugh!

2:51 - I think she had some thyroid issue last year and gained weight.

There are probably about 10,000 other things in life that are more news-worthy than Oprah trying vegan, but this IS a weight loss board! And I can't imagine how less enriched my life would be if I limited myself to be inspired only by people who knew me by name!

Is Ellen Degeneres vegan? She had the authors of Skinny Bitch on her show yesterday, but the 'v-word' never came up, though she said the book 'forever changed her eating' and praised it highly. Sneaky sneaky...... :)

I am inspired by others..........

BUT I AM TIRED OF ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT HAVING A GREATER FOLLOWING THAN THE ACTUAL NEWS SHOWS!

I AM TIRED OF people knowing more about the "stars" than they do about the people and needs that exist in their own community.

Sometimes famous people who overcome health issues can be role models for us, other times it is just gossip.

Real news over celebrity news all the way! I'm trying so hard to just block it all out. I don't care about Britney Spears, Heath Ledger, Oprah! I know too much about their lives and not enough about what's going on in the world as a result of distorted media.

Then again, aren't we all guilty of clicking on this thread?

I don't knock anyone's ability to have luxuries like chefs, and Oprah still has the ability to get whatever food she wants when a craving hits, but this is one area where having a chef would make the transition to veganism much easier! I've got the cookbooks and I'm interested, but changing the whole kitchen and learning all new meals - it's a bit overwhelming! What I should do is just gradually work myself into it rather than try and go full speed ahead!

5:56 - it took me almost a full year to transition - get all the stuff out of the house, learn new recipes, etc. Now it's super-easy! Give yourself the time you need. Any step towards a healthy lifestyle is a step in the right direction!

I am a wife and and mother....but I can't afford a fancy chef....

Can somebody just order me up a wife for myself. I am not gay, but I can see where a wife could come in handy!

8:58 - seriously! A wife would come in VERY handy ;)

6:41 - you're right! The flaw in my plan is that I get hung up on the all or nothing. I can certainly make small changes and work myself into it. Summer will make it a lot easier, too - I love fresh food right from the farm, so that will help! Here's to eating well!!
