Measuring DOES help!!!
After getting kind of frustrated with little movement on the scale, I decided to do some measurements between last week and this week. Voila!!!! I found success! I know that my body tends to build muscle quickly, and it is evident in little change in the scale, but 4-3/4" lost throughout the body... Next week, I hope to see even more-- I had forgotten some measurements last week....
This is so inspiring. Much better motivation for me than looking at the numbers on the scale!!!

Congratulations on finding a good way to provide yourself some positive reinforcement! You're absolutely right that when you get started, you may even gain a little weight as you exchange fat for muscle. Seeing the results in the mirror and with the measuring tape can provide you with a real way to measure your improvement and keep you motivated. Keep up the good work!

I just want to say that I HIGHLY recommend taking measurements, especially if you're just starting out on your journey. Like the first poster said, when you get frustrated with a plateau you will have another form of measuring success to support your efforts.
