Smoothies recipes

Can someone give me some detailed recipes for delicious smoothies. I tried one with forzen fruit, orange juice, and strawberry yogurt but I think I put in too much of some and not enough of something else and it was kind of clumpy and thick not like a smoohtie at all. Any suggestions?

1 cup skim milk
mini scoop frozen vanilla yogurt
1 banana
frozen mango
frozen peaches
frozen blueberries
strawberries

this would make you a BIG smoothie, but you could just use 1/2 cup of milk, half a banana etc. and go light on the other fruits... it's good!

OP

Thanks this does sound good. How long do I blend these smoothies in the blender?

1/2 cup milk
enough orange juice to make the milk turn light orange
frozen strawberries and bananna or frozen strawberries and frozen peaches -only enough to fill the liquid, so that the frozen fruit is under the juice and milk and not coming up out of it

Let the fruit melt a bit before you start blending, then puree until there's no chunks left. This is really refreshing.

Delicious Smoothie!

My boyfriend and I have a smoothie for breakfast pretty much every morning. I thoroughly enjoy them and look forward to them! We each have a 16 oz. glass of the smoothie. But here is the recipe:

frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc.)
1 banana
FF Vanilla yogurt (2-3 scoops)
O.J. (just enough to cover the fruit in the blender)

Blend and Enjoy! Using blueberries and strawberries gives it a beautiful redish purplish color! Let me know if you try it!

These all sound great. If you want to add a little something extra (and heatlhy) to any of these, try adding a tbsp of honey, and a tbsp of ground flax seed. Makes for a great healthy breakfast.

Sure!
I used to work at Jamba Juice years ago, and if I remember correctly, they have two without fruit. I can't remember the exact proportions, so hope this is close:

Peanut butter:
8 oz chocolate or vanilla soymilk
2 tbs (1 would probably work too) smooth peanut butter
1 c. frozen vanilla icecream, sorbet, yogurt, or anything with similar consistencey
1 c. chopped ice

Chocolate
8 oz chocolate soy milk
2 squirts chocolate sauce (like hershey's or something)
1 c. frozen vanilla icecream, sorbet, yogurt, or anything with similar consistencey
1 c. chopped ice

Hope this works! You can choose lower fat/calorie/carb versions of the ingredients to change the calorie total.

Okay,
actually, this is not a smoothie per se, but a recipe for a drink mix.
Although if you omit the Knob Creek, it makes a great smoothie.

Knob Creek Whisky

Orange / pineapple / Passion fruit juice
Maraschino cherries (with some of the syrup)
Frozen orange juice
Frozen Lemonade
1 banana
ice.

Toss it all in a blender until smooth.
I haven't tried it, but I'd bet it would be good with a scoop of Fage 0% FF yogurt as well... :-)

It's awesome with the whisky, but not bad without ;-)

Non Fruit Lover

It's funny, my boyfriend does not eat fruit either. But, he loves the smoothies we have every morning. He said he'll only eat fruit if it's blended up. Try it, maybe you'll like it!

Be careful with the drinks containing soy milk or frozen yogurt or icecream--that may add a lot of refined sugars to your drink! Better to make it with a low-fat plain yogurt... or a soy milk that is not pre-sweetened...(use the fruits as your sweetener.

Agave nectar is a low Glycemic Index sweetener that is all natural-- it looks like honey but doesn't harden when cold.

I have heard of some people using Stevia or Xylitol (sp?) as well (both are natural sugar replacements)

I make my smoothies without milk or yogurt, and they're great. Just follow much the same approach from above. Put a bunch of still-frozen fruit into your blender, pour in enough sugar-free juice (i love Simply Orange, or sugar-free pear juice) to cover the fruit, and blend. If it gets too think and clumpy, add a bit more juice. I don't think extra sweeteners (honey or yogurt -- which usually has a lot of added sugar, actually) are necessary if you experiment a bit with different juices until you find the one that's right for you.

1 cup unflavored soymilk
1 banana, fresh
teaspoon - tablespoon of vanilla-flavored whey (to taste)

If you add too much whey it drowns out the banana, but once you get the right blend, it's a very health, filling banana-licious drink.

bump... hey what is healthier to put in a smoothie to thicken it, frozen yogurt or normal yogurt? does frozen yogurt have a lot more sugar than the other? - also are there any better things to thicken it? - some ppl seem to use just frozen fruits maybe that works

Banana is a good thickener.
