Motivation: Key to success. What's yours?

.. Ph. I lack motivation greatly. It's horrible.. I hate it, I really do...

My main reason for extreme failure last year in track: no motivation. Our coach gave up on us.. didn't care.. didn't motivate us.. So that didn't help any. There was one time I had some.. I was running the 400m and I heard my crush yell for me to push it hard.. and that was it.. Pretty much sucks.

And, so, here I am. Wanting to lose weight, be healthy, get in shape for prom/summer/swimming suit season/etc .. That should be motivation enough, I guess.. But it's not.. It doesn't really affect me at all.

Help for you: see a doctor. When I first tried to lose some weight, I did it because I had a physical for sports.. and the doctor said it wouldn't hurt to lose a few pounds.. Granted he said I didn't look it/carried myself well.. but it still motivated me to do it. And my mom was in on it too, since she was in the doctor's office with me.

So, what is the point of this post? ..I could just consult a doctor and see if that motivates me.. It might. But I'd like to hear how other people get motivated.. How do you remind yourself to stay on track? Do you leave little notes? Just whatever works - post it!

If you don't have the motivation this is what you do:

You make a plan. You organize a system that will help you lose whatever it is you want to lose - and you stick to it. You don't think about it, you just schedule it in as part of your day, do it, and that's it.

As for motivation - you say you wand to get ready for prom/summer/swim suit. Why not buy a specific swim suit that almost looks good on you, but would look awesome if you lost a few? Maybe that would motivate you.

Visualizing myself the way I want to be helps keep me focused. Imagining everyone telling me how great I look. Being able to fit into any clothes I want. But really it's the planning that keeps me on track. The thought process - this is what keeps me in line. If I didn't think about it and plan my day, I wouldn't do anything to lose weight.

You need to require more of yourself. Of course it is easier not to be active or eat right, but in the end if you do something about it you are going to be proud of yourself. Forget about what everyone else thinks, you will be proud of you!
I agree with the last poster about making a plan and seeing it on paper to help keep you focused. Keep telling yourself you can do it. All the best to you.

Find Something You Love

I love clothes and being able to wear anything I want is what keeps me motivated. I love the thought of looking great in clothing, the idea of being slender and chic is a huge motivating factor for me.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant right now and am so anxious to get back in shape after the baby...I started cleaning out my closet yesterday in an effort to get the house ready and in doing so, I totally motivated myself by going through all of my skinny clothes...I CAN'T WAIT TO WEAR THEM AGAIN!

Oh and the lovely thought of being healthy, that motivates me too :)

motivation

It finally just had to HIT me that I am good enough, smart enough, able enough, and had enough pride in me to do what was best for me. Best for me is healthy eatting and regular exercise. Best for me is treating my body with the respect it deserves. Best for me is knowing I am pleasing God. I have been on a GAZILLON diets in my life and this plain common sense approach one is the only one that has not been a struggle or a bore. I think it is because my head is in the right place. I wish you luck with your weight loss program. Do it for the right reasons.

Results!

Results motivate me. It is thrilling to watch the scale go down, or the inches - or be able to fit in a pair of jeans I haven't worn in months...or years!

i was at a stand still-i was fed up with the way i looked and felt. i took the idea from the reality tv shows and got a group of people together. we all put 10.00 in to a pot. in the next 15 weeks the person who loses the most weight wins the money. it is the best motivation i have ever had.
1. since i started the group i feel i have to keep the bar up
2. seeing other people get healthier because of somthing i started
3. seeing myself get back into shape
4. working as a group and being work out buddies.
so far in the last 3 weeks all members have lost at least 7-15 lbs
most of us has done some kind of research about the healthy way to lose weight. all you really need is to be honest w/ yourself and put it into action.
