Finest AR-15 OPTICS: A BUYER'S GUIDE

Navigating the ocean of AR-15 optics can be extremely confusing.

Even with the cost being a significant factor, there are numerous things that you should think about prior to equipping your AR-15 with the newest technology. We break it down into six sections of that which we believe is most important when choosing an optic best binoculars for hunting.

PLANNED USE

Planned Use Impacts Your AR-15 Optics Choice

The very first thing you should be thinking about when buying an AR-15 scope is exactly what your intended use is. Somebody who will go out hunting with their AR-15 on a regular basis will have a far different need than somebody who is in the army or law enforcement. For some types of hunting and other tactical uses, you won't even require a scope--a red dot unit or iron sights are excellent for short-range critter blasting. For more range, you are going to need the precision that just comes from a pair of good AR-15 optics.

Scopes themselves come in two basic styles: streamlined military-type optics--many of them specifically intended for the AR-15's military cousins--and more traditional hunting scopes. They both have their strong points. Army rifles are tougher, but hunting scopes provide greater light gathering and, usually, more exact aiming systems.

What suits you depends on your intended usage. A traditional scope creates a good all-rounder and contains real benefits over open floor, but also for controlling critters or searching in the woods, a compact strategic unit creates a lot of sense.

AR-15 optics are not universal. You need to plan for how you intend to use your rifle, and at times owning numerous scopes makes sense. If you intend to use your rifle for tactical urban warfare drills at a survivalist training camp, a Red dot scope such as an Aimpoint or a holographic scope such as an EoTech are your best bet. For more range, you want something with magnification settings which you can adjust depending on your windage and elevation, just like other long-range rifle scopes that may ensemble a 30-06 or a .308.

Bottom Line: If you're a brief distance hunter, then go with a red dot scope or a good set of flip-up iron sights. Long-distance hunters must purchase the best distance scope they can afford.

BUDGET

Budget Will Effect AR-15 Optics Alternatives

YOUR BUDGET WILL OBVIOUSLY IMPACT YOUR OPTICS CHOICES.

Let's be realistic--budget plays into everything. In case you've got the budget to spring for a Leupold Mark 6, then it might be one of the most important purchases you may make for your own AR-15. Leopold always competes with larger American companies like Trijicon. If the scope is the most important part of your rifle for you, then sink your money in it and then let the scope reward you for another 15 decades.

Based on your intended use, some features may be worth more to you than others.
