Closet eater

Am I the only one that will stick to their diet when others are around, but when I'm alone, I swear all the bad stuff calls my name and I can't resist.

Just wondering if I'm the only "closet eater"?

Nope..

You're definitely not the only one. I sometimes even go to the point of waiting until my husband goes to bed to eat a bowl of ice cream. Sad, isn't it?

Me too, me too!

I have two roommates, so some days the only time I have the place to myself is for about 20 minutes right when I get home from work. I definitely listen at the front door while eating ice cream from the container or a spoonful of peanut butter from the fridge so I can put it away fast when they get back.

Yup - definitely not the only one. I realized things were really bad when I could answer way more than half of those AA questions (are you an alcoholic?) "yes", not talking about alcohol, but about sugar!

It took a lot of hard work to break the addiction (went cold turkey for a month several years ago, lots of mental work to convince myself that I don't actually want to eat all those empty cals, now make sure to avoid sugar first thing in the morning).

Now, the main things that help me not get back in the habit are keeping ALL temptation out of the house and keeping busy in the evenings (that's the worst time for me) - I aim for a half hour or less of TV a night so that I'm always doing something that distracts me from thinking about - and craving - food.

You are for sure not the only one. I am bad about that. If anyone has any suggestions on how to over come this please let me know.

You are definitely not alone!

I live alone and I'm a closet eater. How bad is that!!

Sometimes I will call a friend instead of diving into the sugar - which includes making a quick batch of cookie dough like substance and eating it - yeah, really bad. Hopefully that friend is home or available and by talking to them - it helps me forget that I was craving sugar.

Or make yourself wait 20 minutes - and if you still want it in 20 minutes - eat it - but maybe not all of it - maybe just half.
