the most important meal of the day

I've been noticing lately that the more substantial a breakfast I eat, the better I am able to control snacking and consumption of empty calories throughout the day.

Lately my typical breakfast has been:
two thin slices of homemade toast
two tablespoons of chunky peanut butter
banana or apple

or

three quarters of a cup of yogurt
half a cup (or so) of Go Lean Crunch
a few dried cherrys

Anyone else notice this?

Yes, definitely!

I also notice that if I eat sugar first thing, I crave sugar all day. If I avoid it, my cravings are way less.

I know that a carb/protein combo is best for me. I have to have something for breakfast for the very reason you posted. I will eat horribly the rest of the day if I miss.

Breakfast is my main meal. I love it. I could skip dinner 4 nights a week but I can't skip breakfast. When I lived in Europe, I fit in perfectly!

even docs say so

That breakfast should be the most important meal of the day. We have a common saying:

Have breakfast as if you are a king
Lunch as if you are a Prince
And dinner as if you are a pauper ;)
All the best!

great saying! That's going to become my new mantra. Ever since I read somewhere on peertrainer about eating small dinners because food is fuel and why do you need to fuel up just to go to sleep?, I've been trying to make dinner be my smallest meal. It's hard - it's definitely not the norm here!

I totally agree with this post. In fact, I had mentioned it to my own group about a week ago. I've noticed that cereals are a huge downfall for me - because so many have sugar in them. Even Cheerios, which only has 1 gram per serving, leaves me craving more sugar throughout the day.

I have found if I eat either a protein shake or eggs/egg whites, I am good to go. I feel it is the combination of protein and fiber that "sticks to your ribs" (as my mom used to call it).
