Frustration with myself

SO I was on this diet and it was going great, I didnt feel restricted, I didnt feel guilty, I lost 7 pounds...but this past weekend I got off track and I keep reassuring myself that its ok to break the diet because I can just go back on and the weight will come off....which I suppose is true but why do I keep putting it off? I have this " yea well I'll do it later" approach going on now, and its true if I did it once I can do it again, but I want to do it now and I keep sabotaging. I wonder why. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yes! Actually I am in the same situation now. I was doing so well on my diet for about a month and a half, now I find myself giving into my cravings, sneaking glasses of pop and worst of all halloween candy! I really dont know what to do. My advice to you is to increase your water intake and your excercise so maybe you can slow down your weight gain and get back on track. Let me know how things go and if you have any other suggestions post. There is an opening in the group in need of motivation, I would join, maybe you can get some postitve influence from there.

For me, it helps to think of what I'm doing as a gradual life style change. We all know that short term diets don't work - the only way to lose the weight and keep it off is to eat well and exercise for the rest of your life. Sometimes thinking like that can be overwhelming, but it also puts things in perspective - one day out of your whole life isn't going to make a difference. So stop beating yourself up, and start making small changes to your lifestyle that you'll be able to sustain for ever!

I used to do the same thing. I'd start a diet, it would go well and seem pretty easy and then something would come uo and I'd gain some weight back. In my case I always sabotaged myself because I would think, oh well I lost that 10 pounds pretty easily so now I will indulge and I'll just start over later. But later turns into an extra 5-10 pounds. I stopped thinking of it as a diet and just started making healthier choices, I stopped saying "I CAN'T HAVE THIS OR THAT", instead I have a small something that might not be so good for me and I feel satisfied and move on. I think the thought of denying ourselves of something sets us up for failure. I exercise 6 days a week for at least 1 hour, whether I need to break it up into half hours I still get it in. I have found that the only way to lose weight is to exercise. Eating is only a small part of it.

That is an excellent idea. When you do cheat, make up for it some other way like working out more to compensate for the extra calories.
We have all been in the same situation. I think it has a lot to do with our emotions.
