Is alcohol my problem here?

I am a college student and drink on the weekends, quite a bit I might add do you think this could be why I am not losing as much weight as i would like?

Kinda hard to denifinitively answer that without knowing your situation a bit better

But I would tend to say "yes, it is probably hurting your weight-loss efforts, and at best, it certainly can't be helping." But I think you already know that.

Alcohol itself has a lot of calories and very few people decrease their food intake to compensate for the addition caloric intake. Also, it is a depressant and decreases your inhibitions, and most people do not follow their best judgement about food and eating even after just a couple drinks. For some reason pizza and beer just go together and when you've had a few are you really gonna go out for late-night coffee with your friends and not have the mozarella sticks?

But it's also likely that it's part of your social scene and you can't imagine not having a few when you're out. Try to keep the number of alcoholic drinks down and stay hydrated. When going out for late night munchies try to keep them as healthful as possible. Don't let people give you crap about it and keep on having a good time. Realize others don't really care that you're not drinking as much as they fear you'll look down on them for doing so. Just remind them that you're much funnier/wittier/good-looking when they're drunk ;-)

If you can't hang around your friends and not drink then you might want to seriously re-consider the folks you hang out with and why you do so. Don't mean to get preachy here, but your friends need to be supportive of your choices and efforts and if they feel threatened by your decision to live a healthier lifestyle there's some serious thinking to do about wether or not they're truly your friends. I don't want to jump to any more conclusions than I already have so I'll stop at that :-)

Best Wishes!

I'm discovering that the difference between losing weight and hitting a weight loss plateau is only about 150-200 calories. One 12-oz light beer is about 100 calories. One 12-oz regular beer is about 150 calories. Try counting your calories for a day and seeing where you might be able to make some lower calorie substitutions.

Thank you everyone! I am going to cut down on my drinking so I can focus more on school. This weekend I only had 2 drinks and that is very good for me! Thank you again!
