Pilates tapes

I've used a company in the past, Collage Video, they have a website, you can read good descriptions of the tapes, their employees try them out and rate them. I think you can even ask questions of them if needed.

Kathy Smith's Pilate's for Abs

Her cues are good and so is the workout, but do NOT choose this one if you have a big stomach. I'm putting this one at the back of the shelf until I'm under 150.

I am a Pilates Mat instructor and always recommend Stott Pilates to my students who are looking to practice at home.

can one learn pilates from a dvd?

i live in a remote hill abroad and don't have access to instructors. Can one learn pilates from a dvd? I do have considerable experience with yoga and have learnt it properly from qualified instructors.

Pilates and yoga are very different, but I think the mindfulness and focus you get from yoga will help you to "get" pilates. A 4+ years yoga practitioner, it took me a couple of mat pilates classes to "get" it. I think if you pay close attention to the cues - even from a DVD - you'll do just fine. Like yoga, it is very much about proper breathing, position, alignment, something that you are already experienced with.
