Very often dried fruits have a lot of added sugar - just check the ingredients list and keep that in mind when you're eating them.

Also, remember that when fruit is dried, basically just the water goes away, not any of the calories. So the physical quanitity of food you are eating is smaller for the same amount of calories. For example, I'd guess that 10 or 12 dried apple rings stacked on top of one another would be about the same size as a regular apple, right? Each ring has approximately 15 calories, so that's 150-180 cals total. A fresh apple has around 70 calories - half as much!

Yeah, you need to be very careful. In a sitting, you'd eat one or maybe two apricots, but it'd be easy to eat 15 dried apricots! The sugar and calories add up very quickly!

I use dried fruits (raisins, prunes) in small quantities

I agree with the earlier posters that dried fruits are something of a "stealth" dietbuster---too easy to eat much more sugar than intended.

Having stated this qualifier, I will add that I do use a quarter cup of raisins OR prunes---not both on the same day--- in my morning oatmeal mix as a sweetner. I also add extra water to the mix to rehydrate these dried fruits, so that a quarter cup goes a long way. I find that this helps me eat what would otherwise be a bland meal, day after day after day ...

Depending on the dried fruit, there may be additional good reasons to add it to a diet. Raisins, in particular are rich in iron; prunes have a lot of fiber. Both of these dried fruits add an interesting texture and flavor. And both are much better nutritionally than a spoonful of sugar or honey.
