Anyone have advice for finding cheap airfare?

My aunt is getting married on 7/7/07 in Seattle. I live in FL. I've watched the airfare on Orbitz, etc. and I fear I missed the peak date to buy b/c I wasn't sure when the good time to buy is. Last Monday it was $270 and for the last 3 days the cheapest I caould find was $385. Any suggestions? Do you think it might go down or just keep going up?

The cheapest airfare that I always find is through yahoo! travel. Not sure why it's always cheaper than Orbitz, but it seems to be. Maybe b/c it'll tell you the cheapest airfare between the destinations, and then it'll tell you which days that fare is available. That'll allow you to maybe plan around the available dates.

try hotwire.com, i think it's the same company as orbitz but they seem to have cheaper fares and cheap hotels too...

Try this link. I've found great prices on flights... most are not direct, but they're still cheaper.

Also, once you find a cheap flight on one of these search engines, write down the number of the flight, etc., and then go directly to that airline's website. It should save you a $10 "processing" fee, which is how Orbitz, Expedia, etc., make their money.

I was going to suggest American Airlines, but not sure if they fly into the hubs you are flying into. I had looked everywhere (southwest, orbitz, travelocity, etc.) then I tried American Airlines and found my flight for $285 cheaper. I am not sure why but I bought it RIGHT away! Good luck.

Where in FL do you live? Spirit Air is CHEAPO! as well as AIrTran & SouthWest. I find the majority of these ciber.com travel site are all with in $10-15 of each other. - SLS Good Luck! When in Seattle try Kell's near Pike Place Market. Cool little Irish Pub on the Water.

Couple of general guidelines...

- Buy your ticket more than 3 weeks in advance. Once it gets that close to departure, if the flights are at a certain capacity, the airlines know they can pretty much name their price for the remaining seats.

- Airfares tend to go up on the weekends and down on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays (I think it depends on the airline).

- Contact the local branches of courier companies like DHL and ask if they use freelance couriers. If they do, pitch your request. They use your checked luggage allowance, and you carry documents for the what they check under your name. You never even touch the bags, you're not doing anything disreputable. You can usually get that ticket for about half the going rate. There are online agents/clubs for these gigs, but they charge you like $50 in membership fees with no guarantee, so don't bother.

Hotwire, Orbitz and those kinds of places always scare me, I just don't trust giving my card info before seeing the flight info. I also notice there isn't that much difference. Always book before peak, which in your case has passed, you might be able to find a good deal a few weeks before but keep in mind its a holiday so you are paying for it..

airline fare

I would keep on the airline, sometimes the have online specials. I know southwest does all the time, I just a round trip airfare from florida to jersey for 118.00 and also airtran does to. I don't know what airline you have to take but I would check online with the airline. Those sites that offer cheap tickets always charge you extra for there services.

i personally like www.kayak.com they have competitve rates and have found good rates with them in the past. For example RT from Chicago to LA for $198 you cant ask for a better deal than that. also try bestfares.com

mobissimo.com will search all flight deals, including Orbitz, Expedia, etc. and they don't require a credit card. I usually research through them then go directly to the airline with the best deal at the time. Happy flying!
