LETS IGNORE THE RUDE POSTERS~PLEASE READ

Here is my idea.... I am new to PT, but I am noticing a trend here. There are certain ignorant people who have nothing better to do than to argue on these discussion threads. My thoughts are that if everyone totally ignores their rude posts and doesnt comment to keep the pot stirred, they will not get a kick out of it anymore. Cmon guys. If we don't want these kind of people on the boards doing this kind of stuff, we have to quit arguing back and forth and giving them the attention they are so desperately craving. It's common sense. There are so many better things to do and so much more really good work going on with this site to let these types of people aggitate you like that. Ignorance... Good luck everyone with your goals! Have a great night!

FYI-every few months rude posters surface here and cause a stir and then they go away again and the lounge is a helpful place again. I don't think it's always the same people-I think right now it's one of the newer members . . .either way, just wait it out, they'll get tired of the same arguments.

Oh yes, the current trolls are definitely new to PT - the old ones at least tried to make a point, but these new ones are just name-callers.

Should you really just ignore someone who says something that's potentially dangerously stupid?

Eh, I wouldn't waste my time - most of that stuff is coming from the teenagers who found this site through People magazine, and teenagers are not really known for wanting advice from adults.

I know it's playing right into the hands of the trolls, but is it wrong to respond harshly to something that you find personally offensive?

Wrong, no. Pointless, yes.

Indeed. When your audience is determined not to listen, whatever you might say is no longer worth saying, no matter what it was. In that sense, yes, it's wrong to respond. It's like pulling money out of your wallet and setting it on fire. Hold onto it instead, and maybe you'll think of something more useful to do with it.

Whoever is arguing with someone on a website is just as crazy as them. If you find a thread or topic that you feel isn't worth your time on commenting then move on.

RESPONSE

Answer to the poster from 11:42 am, not wrong, but it is the point of this posting. If you ignore the, they will move on and go away. They are saying it to personally offend you. Its like the kid on the playground who wants to get attention, negative or positive. Doesn't really matter... They have to get it one way or another. Responding in any way shape or form just keeps it going. So yes, just like the next person said, Wrong, no... pointless, yes.

I find debate to be entertaining and I often learn from it. Sometimes rude comments can actually lead to some good discussion. I've read some posts that were amazing because of the debate generated by rude people. I think it is important to see all sides of an issue. It is unfortunate if the person who posted is offended but usually someone stands up for for that person. That is the other reason I feel that we should not avoid commenting. Some comments made are prejudicial and I think it is good to see them corrected on a public forum. Just a thought :)
