fasting

I've been looking into a week long veggie and fruit juice fast. After gorging myself for the holidays I feel like not only is my weightloss suffering but my general health and skin, hair, nails etc
I feel like it will be difficult but very cleansing...does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or would anyone like to join me and we can support each other through it?

I think it sounds good, but remember to include protein, protein is key in healthy hair, skin and nails, it also wouldnt hurt to have some dairy but if you mainly consume fruits and veggies I think you will quickly see positive results! Let us know how things go!

LOL ... I'm a veggie and its amusing when i read that going on a vegetarian diet is termed fasting. There are a lot of tasty healthy options in a veg diet, so dont term this as fasting else, you would eventually feel like its a punishment during your week. Whatever you do, dont starve please. Good luck...

I laughed as well. A fast is just that, a fast. No fruit or veggies. I have heard of people fasting under a doc supervision where all they drank was broth for 5 days but that was more for a body cleansing, to get rid of a lot of impurities they did lose weight, one girl lost 6 pounds and felt really good. But I think what the original poster meant was only veg and fruit juice, this is still not consider a fast. A fast is nothing but water.

More about fasts

I'd have to agree with that. I'm a vegan, so I mostly eat fruits/veggies. A true fast is only water. The best way to do that kind of fast is to start on a Thursday and maintain normal activities on Thurs/Friday. Then over the weekend take it easy, drinking only water. A 4 day fast should get you to lose about 5 lbs. Any longer than that and you should see a doctor because if your potassium dips too low that could mean bigtime trouble. I am thinking of fasting through xmas (christmas eve, christmas, and the following 2 days) so that I don't have to inconvenience my family with food (I'm the only vegan). You should only fast when you aren't working out/stressing your body too much. A good book to read is: Fasting and Eating for Health by Joel Furhman. A once a year fast (3-5 days) is good for your system. Sporadic 1-2 day fasts aren't good for your metabolism or health.
