pet fat

This is brilliant (and more than a little gross). Why didn't I think of that?

That's pretty effective I think. I was actually wondering what I could use to keep in a jar of some sort that I can count down the pounds. I thought about butter but of course that would turn rancid so I wonder what else I could use.

Actually, in the old days, (and even now) people kept (and still keep) butter in their pantry... It shouldn't go rancid if it's been salted...

How about using Crisco (add some yellow food coloring paste?

Oh Crisco, that is an excellent idea. Now any idea on how much is equal to a pound of fat? I think one stick of butter is equal to 1 pound of fat but do you think crisco is the same?

ooo - it's actually 4 sticks of butter is equal to one pound. And crisco probably has ounces (oz) stamped on the front of the package. There are 16 ounces in a pound. I don't know how big the standard package is...

I know how many ounces are in a pound I guess I worded my ? wrong. I was actually trying to find out if one pound of fat is the same as one pound of butter or crisco, I know that there are differences sometimes in weights

Butter and crisco are pure fat, so on a weight basis, yes, a pound of body fat and a pound of crisco or butter are the same. On a volume basis, I don't know for sure, but my guess is that all fats are approximately the same density, which would make a pound of butter or crisco be the same size (look the same size when it's sitting on your desk) as a pound of body fat. My gut reaction says that for the purpose of keeping ourselves on track, they are close enough.

Is that what you meant?
