Edamame - Have you tried it? Recipe ideas?

I have never tried eating edamame before, but have seen it in people's published logs, and the spotlights. I know it is soy...however...not sure if it should be eaten as a snack...or if there are any yummy healthful recipe suggestions out there. Anything would be great. :)

Also - where do you have success in purchasing edamame? Local grocery sores...health food stores, bulk stores....? What do you suggest?

I did find it in my regular grocery store in the health/organic frozen aisle. I recommend buying it already shelled if you can find it. We eat it just cooked with spray butter and salt and pepper. I've put them cold in salad too. My kids even like it! Sorry I don't have any great recipes, I'm kind of a novice to it!

just don't eat the pods. Just boiled with some salt and a little oil is just fine with me. They are really just green soybeans.

Funny, I just came ate some today eating Japanese food. They're really good even if it's plain....but I haven't tasted anything else different.

Edamame are soybeans. You can find them almost in any major grocery store nowadays. You can eat them however you want. The pods are actually edible but are quite fiberous. Just boil some water and dump them in for about 5 min or so and then drain and salt them. They are great as a munchie, even cold, you can toss them in salads, the possibilities are endless. Tofu is made from soybeans as well as a ton of other product today.

I love edamame!!! I worked at a CSA farm last summer and we grew tons of it!

For me the beans themselves remind me of a cross between lima beans and peas. When steamed or boiled they don't seem to be as dry as lima beans though. When cooked in the pods they are kind of tough, but they are still good.

If your grocery store has a sushi counter, ask if they have edamame there, that way you can get just a small serving and see if you like it!
