Can't walk for a while. Need alternate exercise...

Hi,
I have a partial tear of the achillies tendon at my right heel. That foot is in a cast now and I won't be able to walk for weeks. I'm usually on the treadmill for 50 minutes every other day and also do a resistance workout. That, plus diet has kept me stable more or less where I want to be. Not getting the treadmill exercise is going to put a real crimp in my fitness. Do you have ideas on what I can do instead?

maybe the upper body part of taebo?

now would be an excellent time to get some strength training in, grab some hand weights and start toning to keep that muscle active.

and besides that, maybe just eat a little less

I'm there too--have a hip joint injury. I do pilates (and yoga) now (used to run), and it's really good. There are definitely the parts that I can't do at all, but there are other things that I can do. Also, it's a lower intensity workout, but at least it's something. I recommend mat pilates (not yoga, because all that time in downward facing dog really can't be good for your achilles) because you spend most of the time on your back or stomach.
Good luck!

Hi! I recently did the "30 day shred" workout from jillian michaels. its a fabulous workout by the way... but!
In one of the cardio spurts she talked about how doing lik... kickboxing arm work is a really good way to get your heart rate up and get exercise if you have a lower body injury. Like all the different punches and stuff. Maybe you could look into something like that:)

Pilates

I have never been in better shape doing so little exercise. I recently had a back injury, and Pilates is the only thing (besides swimming) that I'm really allowed to do right now. My abs and the rest of me have never been sexier or stronger, even when I was younger and injury-free!

Seriously, if I would have discovered Pilates in my teens, I would have had an amazing body all along.

I'm glad I can still have one now! Ironically, I can thank my injury for that!
