Description:
There are 114 calories in 1 cup of sweet potato.
A one cup serving of Sweet Potato contains 6 grams of sugar, which is interesting because you would expect a higher sugar content from such a tasty food.
An Important Tip For Eating Sweet Potato:
Sweet Potatoes are high in an array of important nutrients. Research has shown that a small amount of fat eaten along side the sweet potato will help the body absorb these nutrients.
Coconut Oil is a favorite of ours. It is a healthy fat, and can help turn an already tasty food into something even better.
For those of you following the PEERtrainer Cheat System, Sweet Potato is a left side, unlimited food.
We have found that this is an easy to make food, high in important nutrients, and can be very filling.
A Tip For Making Sweet Potatoes:
Someone at our local Whole Foods suggested that we set the oven to 400 degrees, throw the Sweet Potatoes right in and cook them for an hour.
Allowing them to heat up slowly helps to bring out the sweet taste. We do this regularly, and find that they do taste super sweet.
Sweet Potato Nutrition Summary:
- Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A.
- They are also a very good source of vitamin C and manganese.
- In addition, sweet potatoes are a good source of copper, dietary fiber, vitamin B6, potassium and iron.
- Among root vegetables, sweet potatoes offer the lowest glycemic index rating. That’s because the sweet potato digests slowly, causing a gradual rise in blood sugar so you feel satisfied longer.
